On September 5, 2026, Gudrun Adelheid Elisabeth Snethlage (née Engelke) went peacefully to her Saviour in her 88th year.

Gudrun Snethlage was the beloved wife of the late Gisbert for 67 years and was the cherished mother of Dorothea Hill (Jon), Johannes (Sally), Christine Lederman (Robert), and Andreas (Tina). Gudrun was also an adored Omi of Tanya, Melanie, Nathaniel, Joshua, Anneliese, Melinda, Jakob, Jadah, Jeramee and Jazmyn, along with 12 great-grandchildren.

Gudrun was predeceased by her sister Edelgard Schranz & brother, Wolfgang. She is survived by her brother Jurgen Engelke (Barb) and sister Christiane Snethlage (Rotger).

Born in Oschatz, Germany on June 13, 1939, Gudrun travelled alone by boat to Canada in 1955 with hopes of better opportunities for her family.

She became active in the German Lutheran Church in Kitchener (later the German Christian Endeavour Fellowship). One day, her singing there captured the heart of Gisbert Snethlage, who was visiting from Germany, and they were married soon after.

In addition to the family they raised together, Gudrun found fulfillment in life from singing, painting, the family cottage, and her craft business, All Things Beautiful – Crafts by Gudrun.

Most of all, she was devoted to Jesus. Her passion to share the gospel enveloped most of her life. She often inspired others in their walk with God. She spent many hours in prayer for others and encouraged those around her in their faith.

Gudrun and Gisbert always had a seat at the table for family, neighbours, and friends old and new (and they would always be well fed by her German cooking).

Gudrun enjoyed her last months at Heritage House, where she made many friends, including her dear friend Mimi & Monique. She became a social butterfly and her positive attitude radiated throughout the entire building. She will be remembered for the kindness, faith, & the encouragement she showed to everyone she met.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Missionary Church, 330 Conservation Drive, Waterloo, Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the Church fellowship hall.
