He went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2026, while in the compassionate care of Matthews House Hospice.
Thomas Leo Bonvie was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
Tom is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Catherine; his daughter, Tara (Hunter), her husband, Mark, and their daughters, Reagan and Lauryn; his sons, Clint and Luke; his daughters-in-law, Darlene and Valerie; his cherished grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, Chad, Shi-Enne, Tiffany, Krystal, Ryan, and Zack; and his 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved dearly. He is also fondly remembered by his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Doug Hayward, Donnie and Myra Ellsworth, and Frank and Janet Ellsworth, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Susan Bonvie, and his brothers, Johnny and Jimmy.
Tom faithfully served his country as a member of the Canadian Guards in the Canadian Army from 1957 to 1968, serving in Germany and Cyprus. His dedication and sense of duty remained evident throughout his life.
A gifted writer and communicator, Tom was an award-winning copywriter at CKEC Radio in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He went on to write plays and many stories, sharing his imagination and love of storytelling with others.
Before his retirement, Tom worked as a Commissionaire at the RCMP detachment in Newmarket, Ontario, for 14 years.
Above all, Tom loved the Lord. Together, Tom and Catherine faithfully served in their churches and several Christian schools, dedicating their lives to sharing God’s love with others. He was especially grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Just Jesus Radio Network in South Carolina for more than ten years, where he used his gifts to encourage listeners and proclaim the message of Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he was always ready to share the hope he had in the Lord with anyone he met.
Tom had a special place in his heart for the children of the world. Their well-being was a constant concern to him, and he faithfully supported ministries that cared for children while lifting them up in prayer each day. It was one of the quiet but deeply meaningful expressions of his faith and compassion.
When he wasn’t working or serving, Tom enjoyed spending time on the golf course. Golf was his favourite pastime, providing him with many happy hours and lasting friendships.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, his service to his country, his creative spirit, and his kind heart. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Drury Funeral Centre, 519 Victoria St. E., Alliston, ON. Visitation will begin at 11:30am, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm. Interment will take place immediately following the service, with a reception to follow.
