Dr. Joseph Mallon

It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Joseph Sullivan Mallon, at home in Sarnia on September 17. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Justin and Lorraine Mallon, and his eldest brother, Howard (1962), whose loss had a profound impact on him. He is survived by siblings Mary of Toronto, Joan (David Hill), Monica (Ray Gould) and John of Sarnia, Cecilia of Massey, Margaret and Eleanor (Brian Pendergast) of Mississauga, and Maureen (John Kolada) of Chicago. Joe enjoyed being an uncle to 22 nieces and nephews, and a great-uncle to 8. He often commented that little ones were “inherently mood altering.” Joe was born July 6, 1953, in Sarnia. Joe attended Regina Mundi High School in London before obtaining his Bachelor of Science from McMaster University. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School and specialized in Anaesthesiology. Joe lectured at the University of Toronto and worked at Mt. Sinai and Sunnybrook Hospitals before retiring in 2013. He relished returning to his roots in Sarnia where he worked as a Coroner. Joe found providing comfort and answers to bereaved families most rewarding. Joe was happiest amid any family gathering and grateful for his long walks on the Howard Watson Trail where he made many friends. Joe was a generous, humble man of deep faith. He preferred the simple pleasures in life like sunsets, music, the Blue Jays, classic movies and Jeopardy. During any health or life crisis of close family and friends, Joe showed up with his quiet, calming presence and made a difference. He will be profoundly missed by his entire family. Family and friends will be received at the SFH – McKenzie Blundy Chapel, 431 Christina St. N. Sarnia, on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 390 Christina St. N. Sarnia on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Sarnia.
