On November 1, Allen Brown passed away peacefully at Oak Ridges Hospice, Port Perry, surrounded by his family. Survived by Darlene, his wife of 46 years, Daughters Sara Fioretti (Dave) and Emily Smith (Corey). Pa will be missed by his grandchildren Aubrianna Fioretti, Marcus, Holden and Camden Smith. Uncle Ben will be fondly remembered by his niece Rosemary Smith and her family.
Al “Downtown Brown” joined the Toronto Police Service December 31, 1973 and retired as Detective March 31, 2009. During his career he had a way of making people around him feel seen, heard and cared for. He acted as a mentor for many younger officers including his daughter Emily and his son-in-law, Corey who followed in his footsteps.
He always made time for his wife and daughters while working; holiday celebrations and school functions were never missed. Once retired, he expanded this to watching his grandsons at hockey and his granddaughter’s dance and acting performances. Time with grandkids became the most important way to spend time, teaching them to fish, lighting fires, tubing, swimming off the pontoon boat and getting ice cream. Summers were spent with family and friends at Lake St. Peter where he relaxed by ATVing, woodcutting, fishing and enjoying cocktails with his son-in-law Dave. In the fall, he enjoyed hunting moose with friends and deer hunting with Corey and passing on deer hunt secrets to grandson Marcus. In the winter he loved cruising and the adventure of the long driving trips to Florida with his wife. Al was famous for sharing stories with anyone who would listen. He will be missed greatly by all.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. In honour of his memory, the family kindly requests that memorial donations can be made to the Oak Ridges Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
