It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Jill Gladys Evelyn Whiteley (nee Angell) announces her passing on October 28, 2026 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Born September 25, 1939 in Oshawa, Ontario, Jill had recently celebrated her 87th birthday.
Family and friends remember Jill for her love of her family, her warmth and thoughtfulness and the moments they shared together. Jill’s greatest pride was the family she created with her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert Whiteley. They married in Oshawa, Ontario on June 4, 1960, then raised their family in Mitchell’s Corners, Ontario. Jill leaves behind her five daughters, Deborah Whiteley, Kathleen Whiteley (Audie Skinner), Heather Whiteley, Robyn Clarke (Steve Clarke) and Jennifer Whiteley (Chad Osmond) and is predeceased by her infant son Robert Whiteley. Jill was also much-loved “Nanny” to Dustin, Rob, Jake, Kate-Lynn, Robby, Camden, Xanni, Daniel, Logan (predeceased) and her great grandchildren. Jill was predeceased by her parents George and Olive Angell, brother-in-law Ted Whiteley (Judy) and sisters-in-law Joy Holtby (Doug, predeceased) and Barb Angell. She is survived by her brothers John/Jack Angell and Reg Angell (Rita) of Niagara Falls. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, the “crafties” from her decades-long craft group and her four-legged friend Taffie.
Jill’s girls were blessed to have been raised by a mom who always encouraged them to follow their dreams. Through example, she taught her girls to become lifelong learners and to know they could do anything they worked hard at. She passed on her love of reading and the joy to be found in a good book, made even better by a good cup of tea. She enjoyed sharing her love of home design, decorating and “crafting” with her girls. Jill was an amazing seamstress, knitter and artistic “crafter”. Despite each of her girls moving on and establishing their own homes, Jill always provided them with a home to come back to where they could reset, find love and comfort and enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal. Her girls will treasure the many family recipes Jill gathered and gifted to them.
Arrangements (cremation) were entrusted to Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St., Bowmanville. Memories and condolences can be shared online at www.northcuttelliott.com. At Jill’s request no service will be held. If you wish to honour Jill, the family kindly requests donations to either The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the Canadian Cancer Society (for which Jill was a long-time canvasser) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
