John Francis O’Connell

It is with great sadness that we announce that Frank has passed away peacefully with family at his side at Lakeview Manor on Sunday November 01,2026 at the age of 95 .

John Francis Connell was born on August 17, 1931 in Peterborough, Ontario to John George and Alice Rose (Lappin) O’Connell and was raised in both Atherley and New Toronto. He was an older brother to Paul (deceased). In 1953 he married a Beaverton native, Joan Marie (Smith) O’Connell and began a family of 7 children. John (Judi) Mark (Lovetta), Terry(deceased) (Allison), Randy (MaryLou) Carol (Marty-deceased) Lynda (Mike) and Ken (Peggy). Frank is the proud Poppa to 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He began his career at the Goodyear Rubber Company in New Toronto where he was a volunteer member of the fire brigade before becoming one of the first 100 Members of the Etobicoke Fire Department in 1959 , where he served for 29 years and retired as a Captain in 1988. In retirement he enjoyed winters in Florida, following the Blue Jays, fishing and especially sharing time with family. He was immensely proud of his career as a fire fighter and never missed a chance to attend their retirement luncheons and multiple fishing trips with the guys.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Lakeview Manor for the exceptional care he experienced while a resident. Also a special thank you to PSW Cindy Hobden who provided home care above and beyond delaying dad’s move to the Manor. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. A memorial Mass will be held at 11a.m.on Saturday November 14th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 573 Simcoe St. Beaverton On . A celebration of life will follow in the Church Hall following the service.
