It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Mary Ann Zitt on November 2, 2026, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital at the age of 83, after her second brief battle with cancer.
Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland on July 4, 1943, Bertha, predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mary Shaw, was their only child. Devoted mother to Stephen Zitt, Tanya Zitt (husband Kevin Joseph) and Nicole Zitt Coleman (husband Jason Coleman). Proud and loving grandmother to Jordon and Jaden Barrett, Noelle Russell (husband Christoper Russell), Naomi Zitt James (partner Anthony Hypolite), Nycolette Zitt James (partner Charlie Saunders), Noah Zitt James, Brandon and Ryan Zitt, Nixon and Jocelin Coleman and Aiden Joseph. Adoring GiGi to Jade Russell, Chase and Athena Hypolite James and her loyal protector, Nova.
Visitation will be held at De Stefano’s Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Murray Drive in Oshawa, on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place.
