McBRIDE, Sheila (nee Hinckley) — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila McBride (nee Hinckley), our Nanny, on February 7, 2017.
Born in Hampstead, England, on January 26, 1928, she made the courageous decision to immigrate to Canada alone aboard the MS Gripsholm, at the conclusion of WWII and settled in Toronto, Canada.
Sheila remained faithful to God and was very involved with Forward Baptist Church, where she made lifelong friends.
She really enjoyed her time working with children; teaching Sunday School, volunteering at Holland Bloorview and lending a helping hand wherever it was needed.
She also devoted the majority of her life caring for her grandchildren. Her family will miss her unwavering love, hugs and resilient spirit immensely.
Sheila is survived by her children: Gordon (Dawn) and Robert (Cathy); her grandchildren Shayne, Darin (Tania), Meaghan (Allan), Clinton and Garret; and great-grandchildren Kaelyn and Gwen. Sheila was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Doris and brother Roland.
We would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care. We are grateful for the diligent care that Nanny received.
Sheila's family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Giffen-Mack Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 4115 Lawrence Ave. E., 416-281-6800. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 also at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home and Cremation Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sheila to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital, Forward Baptist Church or Tony Stacey for Veterans Care would be greatly appreciated.
