Gregory KarenGREGORY, Karen Elaine (Cappleman) - (1944 - 2017) - Karen Gregory (Cappleman), Grandmother, Mother and Partner, 73, died on October 20, 2017 after a 14 year journey with dementia.

Karen's essence will go on in the lives of her loving partner of 53 years, Murray, and their two children, and nine grandchildren: Tracy and Bengt Gregory-Brown, Dakota, Xander, Corwyn, and Tristan: Kevin and Stephanie Gregory, Mikayla, Samson, Orrin, Tyne and Quinn.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Reg and Doris Cappleman; and is survived by her sisters, Jill (Lee) Van Biesbrouck and Julie (Dave Sheppard) Cappleman and her brothers Jim (Irene) and Gerry Cappleman.

Karen graduated from Teacher's college in Stratford, Ontario and taught one year in Elmira. She moved on to computer programming and became one of the first women to enter the Hi Tech field of computers in 1965.

As a mother, she supported breastfeeding during a time when it was not widely supported. She volunteered her time helping other mothers who were struggling, a tradition that is carried on by Stephanie.

As a community member she devoted numerous hours to supporting students in school, visiting and supporting members of the local church, and travelling from house to house collecting funds for local charities.

From 1988 to 2002 Karen along with her partner Murray donated numerous weekends providing communication workshops across Canada to help couples improve their relationships. As part of this commitment they also provided leadership to the organization which sponsored the workshops.

After being diagnosed with dementia in 2002, Karen dedicated her life to help finding a cure. She participated in many trials and tests at Sunnybrook hospital in hope that a cure could be found for others.

As post-theist she would want you to know that she lives on in the voices of her children, grandchildren and in the memories of her family and friends. The greatest gift to Karen would be that you share her stories.

Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd., Georgetown on Saturday November 25th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A celebration of Karen's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m.

In memory of Karen, contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
