FOREMAN, Clifford Darcie - (May 14, 1930 – December 12, 2017) -
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Clifford Foreman in his 88th year.
He passed away peacefully at The Carpenter Hospice with his family by his side after a mercifully brief battle with cancer.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Marie Foreman (nee Veale), children John (Margo), Lisa Marie and Carolyn, grandchildren Brian, Adam, Jenna, Marcus and Jayme, great grand-daughter Aidan Marie and niece Linda Sheppard (nee Foreman).
He was predeceased by his parents, James Darcie Foreman and Mary Elisabeth Foreman (nee Reeves), brother John Robert Foreman and sister-in law Ruth Foreman (nee Cotrill).
Cliff was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. He met his future wife Shirley on a blind date in 1953 and they married on September 18, 1954. After working as an electrician for some years, he joined the Hamilton Police force in 1958. In 1956 Cliff and Shirley moved to their home in Burlington. Son John was born in 1957 and daughters Lisa Marie and Carolyn joined the family in 1961 and 1963 respectively. Their home in Burlington would be “Mom and Dad’s house” (or “Grandma and Poppa’s house”) for the next 60 years.
Cliff retired in July 1989 after having served on the Hamilton Police Force for over 30 years. In retirement Cliff’s passions included golf, travel (especially winters in Florida), genealogy, and spending time with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was a passionate (and vocal) supporter.
Cliff was a dedicated member of the Hugh Murray Lodge for many years, having joined in 1964, where he held the title of Very Worshipful Master. Cliff was a longtime member of the Hidden Lake Golf Club, where he also served as a Marshal for many years.
A loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather, Cliff will also be remembered fondly by those who knew him as a Mason, football coach, golf partner and friend. His children and grandchildren are grateful for the love and support he gave, for the traits he passed on and the fine example he set of a life well-lived.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care and comfort provided by the staff of the Joseph Brant Hospital and The Carpenter Hospice.
The family will receive friends at Smith’s funeral home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington on Friday, December 15th from 7 – 9pm and on Saturday, December 16th from 12 noon until the Service of Remembrance begins at 1:00pm. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
