John Ian Armstrong
1940 – 2024
John (Ian) Armstrong passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at Symphony Senior Living in Kanata, Ontario, at the age of 84. Born on January 9, 1940, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Robert and Mary Armstrong, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community member. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Caroline just a few weeks ago, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.
John was a lifelong lover of sports, dedicated public servant, and cherished family man. After emigrating to Canada in 1966, he built a fulfilling life, serving as Chief of Weights and Measures during Canada’s conversion to the metric system. John also played an active role in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, hazardous materials, and taxation, until his retirement in 2000.
John is survived by his children Robert, Andrew (Lara), and Catriona, and grandchildren Alex, Charlie, and Jamie. He will also be deeply missed by his niece Margaret (Gavin) Hawke and their children, Robert and Dion.
