FOSTER, Charles Melvin - Baptist Minister and Doctor of Ministry.

Surrounded by family, Charlie peacefully passed into the loving arms of his Saviour at Port Perry Community Hospital  on January 22, 2020, in his 95th year.

Devoted husband of Frances Elma Foster (nee Cumming) for 64 years. Loving father of Rob (Bev), Paul (Shannon), Janine Hagerman (Bryan), Judy Ward (Stephen) and Pierre (Nilza).

Cherished and remembered  grandfather of Aimee Berends (Jon), Jeremy, Mark, Josee, Cody, Brett, Christianne Hagerman and Liam Hagerman, Alexandra, Ben and Andrew Keith, Caelan and Brayden. Cherished great-grandfather of Rhea and Elise Berends.

Beloved son of the late Arthur James and Ellen Foster, brother of Arthur, Don and Helen Black.

Charlie was a missionary and church planter with the Grande Ligne Mission and the French Baptist Union of Quebec. He was a teacher and pastor to students in Groupes Bibliques Universitaires (Intervarsity Christian Fellowship), mentor and friend to many nationally and internationally. Charlie and Elma partnered in raising a family and doing ministry in Quebec, France, the Congo and Ontario.

Charlie is known for his sharp intellect, commitment to mission, a father’s heart and compassionate friendship.

Until recently, Charlie enjoyed social media, playing the violin with his children and grandchildren, driving, being involved in men’s and outreach small groups, Christian apologetics, painting, learning about naturopathic medicine – he had a curious mind and was hard-wired for life!

His parting messages of “Mission Accomplished” and “All is well” give those of us who love and miss him the assurance that “Our hope in Jesus is rock solid” and as he said to us, “See you there”.

Friends will be received at Emmanuel Community Church, 1680 Reach St, Port Perry, Ontario on Friday, January 31st from 6-9 pm.

Celebration of Life Service to take place at Emmanuel on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 am. Reception and light lunch to follow at Emmanuel. A private interment service will follow the reception.

In memory of Charlie and in lieu of flowers, donations to the French Baptist Union of Quebec, Canadian Baptist Ministries, or to the Christian charity of your choice would be appreciated.
