Cubitt NormaCUBITT, Norma - (July 19, 1919 – April 18, 2021)

It is with gratitude for a life lived fully and filled with the love of family, friends, and her extended Northminster United Church family, that Norma Cubitt passed away on Sunday, April 18th, 2021, at Lakeridege Health Bowmanville.

She was born on July 19th, 1919 in Millbrook, Ontario but lived the majority of her life in Oshawa.

She is survived by her son Garry and his wife Vicki, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Catherine and husband Paul Switzer, Abigayle and Kaitlyn, and Christopher Cubitt and wife Stephanie, and Nathan and Tyler.

It was her greatest pleasure to have always been a part of their family events and sharing in the happy times at the family cottage.

She has nieces and nephews who always stayed in contact with her and she very much enjoyed their calls and cards.

She leaves behind friends at her home at Traditions of Durham where she spent many wonderful years, as well as her previous homes at Kassingers and on Oakes Avenue.

Her deep faith, joy of life, caring for others, and always friendly and joyous spirit, has left a wonderful mark on all who knew her.

Norma was the last surviving charter member of Northminster United Church where she attended the very first service of the congregation when she was 8 years old. She spent her life as an active part of her church and was honoured to be a life member of the UCW.

Having retired from working 25 years at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, she became for many years an active volunteer in the palliative care unit at Oshawa.

Norma was predeceased by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Victor Cubitt, her parents Norman and Lila Dunford, and her siblings Helena Wilson, Bernice Jackson, and Robert (Bob) Dunford. Norma was the last surviving member of their generation in both her family and the family of Victor.

She was sustained throughout the years with wonderful memories of the times spent with her family, their spouses and children, and the siblings and families of her husband Victor.

She was extremely proud of her family, joyous for the full life she had lived, appreciative of all who were her friends, and honoured to have been a part of her church family at Northminster.

She left us all with a hand written note, “I have been so blessed in so many ways. Thanks be to God”

Memorial donations in her memory can be made to Northminster United Church, Oshawa.

Due to Covid restrictions a private family funeral will be held on Friday, April 23rd, at Northminster United Church, with interment to follow at Mount Lawn Cemetery
