NORTHEY, Margaret Ruth Northey  - March 8, 1931 - August 8, 2021

Margaret Ruth Northey, known as Ruth, led a full life and passed peacefully on August 8, 2021.

Born in Toronto to parents Maude and Lorne Northey, she was the first child in the family, followed by her brother Douglas (deceased) and sister Louise (deceased).

The family moved to Fenelon Falls, Ontario for business purposes and Ruth completed her schooling and enjoyed an active and full childhood.

Following high school, Ruth entered the Nursing Program at Oshawa General Hospital, graduating in 1952.

Nursing was a family tradition; her mother and aunt were also Nurses and had fulfilling careers.

After a year of nursing in British Columbia, Ruth moved to Whitby and spent more than thirty years working at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital.

Due to health issues Ruth moved to Amica Senior Residential Centre. Here she continued to be active and cared greatly for her fellow residents. Always with suggestions for change, she carried on with her tradition of involvement.

As Ruth’s health declined she moved on and spent her last two years in Fairview Lodge.

The staff provided excellent and loving care until she passed.

Ruth will be greatly missed by friends and family. We are better for her life on this earth.

Cremation and private arrangements have been made. There will be no service.

Donations in Ruth’s memory to the Durham Region Humane Society would be deeply appreciated.
