WELLAND, Miceal WIlliam Arnold Welland   -  It is with heavy hearts and much love that the family of Miceal (Mike) Welland announce his passing on February 8, 2022 at the age of 77 years.

Mike passed away peacefully from cancer after outliving even the most optimistic forecasts by several years.

Due to his strength and tenacity, he was able to continue to do what he enjoyed, which was spending time with friends and family and was able to watch his grandchildren grow from babies to kids and young adults.

Mike was born in Belfast, Ireland and came to Canada as a young boy. On his way to Toronto, he spent a short time in Montreal.

He became an Officiant and married hundreds of couples at Toronto’s City Hall and locations throughout the GTA. He oversaw the marriages of many of his friend’s children and in 2008 officiated the marriage of his daughter Aidan to Alan Lyons.

Mike was the beloved father to his two children Sean and Aidan (Alan) and is survived by his brother Malcolm (Emel). His three grandchildren Rowan, Poppy and Cole will forever hold fondly their memories of “Grandpa Mike.”  He was predeceased by his parents, Allen and Vera Welland.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Seitelbach and all of the wonderful medical staff at Scarborough General and Providence Health Care.

As per Mike’s wishes, a private ceremony will take place at a later date.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
