HABER, Lilla Haber - October 8, 1923 - August 5, 2022
Passed away peacefully at the Port Hope Extendicare on the morning of August 5, 2022, at the age of 98.
Predeceased by her loving husband of over 70 years, Jibbron, and her sons Owen (Miriam) and Kamal.
Lovingly remembered by her children, Horace (Diane), Patricia (Greg), Nemur (Ana); her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother/sister-in-laws and so many other amazing extended family members and friends who are like family.
Born on October 8, 1923 on the small Caribbean Island of Jamaica from parents of Scottish and English descent, Lilla and her brothers and sisters had a unique upbringing, including learning how to speak Patois, an English-based creole language with West-African influences, spoken primarily in Jamaica.
She always had an interesting story to share, and she had a charisma about her that was engaging and infectious.
Lilla and Jibbron eventually moved their family to the Toronto area of Canada, where they enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls and were proud to eventually become Canadian citizens.
When her health began to decline and she needed more support than her family could provide, she became a resident of Port Hope Extendicare.
Our family is eternally grateful to the nurses, doctors, personal support workers and all the staff at Extendicare who took such precious care of our Lilla for the past 10 years.
A special thanks to her devoted daughter Patricia who served as her primary caregiver and supporter - making it a regular routine to visit, feed, and care for her mother on behalf of the whole family...never feeling burdened and being there for Lilla out of love and respect for an amazing family matriarch.
The family will host a celebration of life at The SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE - PICKERING, Ontario (1057 Brock Road) on Sunday, August, 14, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
The interment will take place at a future date to be determined.
