HILPERT, Guenther Walter Hilpert   -  1940 - 2022  Guenther, or ‘Papa’ as he was referred to by his Canadian family, was born in Konigsberg, Prussia in 1940.

He died on September 13th, 2022 in Ajax Ontario of cancer. 

He was raised in Hamburg, Germany with his sister Irmgard and his brothers Karl-Ludwig and Manfred.

He immigrated to Canada in 1966 as a young mechanical engineer where he met and married Margaret, his wife of 51 years, and became a step-father to Erica and a father-in-law to Leslie.Later, Guenther become a grandfather to Laura and Scott and eventually great-grandfather to Tristan, Lillian, Celeste and Elena. He always enjoyed visiting and having conversations with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as he cared for them deeply. 

Throughout his life, Guenther enjoyed sailing, wind surfing, home renovations and taking care of his family.

He spent most of his career at IBM Canada where he retired in 1994.

Guenther remained connected with his family in Germany and leaves behind his sister and four nieces and three nephews.

He was a very friendly man who loved engaging in conversation with everyone he met and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed listening to classical music, learning more about space and was an expert on history.
