Van Nette JohnVan NETTEN, John   - (February 8, 1925 - November 11, 2022)

The family of John Van Netten of Whitby, ON, is saddened to announce his passing on November 11, 2022 at the age of 97.

He is lovingly remembered by his four children Ted (Hilda), Gail (Bob), Gwen (Clive), Kathy (Ron), his eight grandchildren Joel (Jennifer), Lindsey (James), Sarah (Pat), Jeffrey (Diana), Emily (Lucas), Eric, Allison (Trevor), Robyn and his ten great grandchildren Ewen, Charlie, Frances, Olivia, Nora, Max, Hannah, Sophie, James, and Tessa.

He is predeceased by Tess in 2011, his loving wife of over 60 years.

John immigrated to Canada from Holland with his fiancé Tess and her family (de Jong) in 1948.

They eventually settled in Toronto where John studied to become a chartered accountant and over the course of his career became Vice President, Treasurer for Rio Algom Mining Co.

Upon retiring in 1984 , he and Tess obtained their real estate licences and pursued this new venture for several years together. In his spare time John enjoyed holidays spent with his family on their many camping and driving trips.

He renovated numerous homes, built furniture, loved gardening, painting, reading, feeding the birds, lawn bowling and watching golf and baseball on TV. He was an active member and volunteer of several churches in the communities where he lived.

John spent his final years at Amica on Kenneth Hobbs in Whitby.

He was well taken care of by the staff there and was very diligent and proud of learning the names of all his caregivers.

He is missed by all.  A private family celebration of life and interment of ashes will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Durham Outlook for the Needy, through Canadahelps.org.
