STURGEON, Winifred (Winnie) (nee Haughey) Sturgeon   -  March 21, 1924 – January 21, 2023

Winnie passed away peacefully at Glen Hill Terrace LTC home in her 99th year.

She is predeceased by her husband Thomas, her brother Charles and sisters Beatrice, Margaret, Sadie and Irene.  Loving mother to Allanah (Stephen), Gregory (Louise) and Gary (Sharon); her grandchildren Kristina (Tim), Geoffrey, Zachary (Diana), Samantha (Bradley) and Alexa (Richard); and her great-granddaughters Elisabeth and Savannah.  Special aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom.

Winnie and Tommy immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland settling in Scarborough where they raised their family.  Winnie loved singing and dancing and after moving to a condo in Bowmanville, she became an active member of the Older Adult association, taking part in clogging, line dancing, square dancing and tap dancing as well as many other activities.

She also transferred her church membership to St. Paul’s United Church where she enjoyed worshipping with her new church family.

Winnie left her condo and moved to Bowmanville Creek Retirement home just as it was opening and was there until last year, when a fall made it impossible for her to remain.

Many thanks to the staff at the Creek for always checking in on her and making sure that she got to as many of the activities as she was able to participate in.  Heartfelt thanks also go out to the staff at Glen Hill Terrace, especially 2N, for their kind and compassionate care during Winnie’s time there.

Visitation will take place at St. Paul’s United Church, 178 Church Street Bowmanville, from 10 am on Saturday February 4, until the time of the service at 11:30 am.  A reception will follow in the church hall.  A Private interment will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery.

Arrangements with the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, The Bowmanville Older Adult Association or St. Paul’s United Church.
