Hotchkiss ElveraHOTCHKISS, Elvera (Effie) Jane Hotchkiss -

June 26, 1940 – February 22, 2023

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Elvera (Effie) Jane Hotchkiss on February 22, 2023.

Effie was predeceased by her beloved husband David in 2019; survived by son Jason Hotchkiss (Julie) and daughter Natasha Moffett (Andrew) and grandchildren Colton and Averie Hotchkiss and Isabelle, Sophie and Annie Moffett.

Born in 1940 in Ignace, Ontario, Effie was the second of seven children of Ken and Laura Lind.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, brothers Ken junior and David Lind.

Survived by sisters Pauline Vranesich, Sonja Squires, Thelma Lind and Candice Lind.

Effie spent her formative years in Northern Ontario and moved to southern Ontario to further her education.  It was there she met the love of her life David on a blind date.  Together they raised Natasha and Jason and were long-time residents of Whitby.  Family and home were Effie’s main focus.

They loved to travel and with their young family, she and David spent two years in South Korea.  As a family they enjoyed camping and travelling to their son’s hockey tournaments.

She was an avid reader and could engage in any conversation.

In later life Effie and David would spend winters in Mexico and Arizona and summers at the family trailer in Peterborough.  They enjoyed learning how to play bridge together and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren.

A celebration of Effie’s life will be held at  W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SickKids Hospital Foundation in Toronto or the  CHARITY of your choice and condolences may be expressed online at wctownfuneralchapel.com.
