COTA, Dale Cota  -

October 30, 1941 – May 23, 2023

“The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” (Rabindranath Tagore)

With great sadness, the family of Dale Cota announces his passing on May 23, 2023, at Oshawa Lakeridge Health (OLH) in Oshawa, Ontario, in his 82nd year.

Much-loved and admired Dad of Teri Cota (Jeffrey Gill) of Montreal, Quebec and Adam Cota (Emily Campbell) of Grand Junction, Colorado. Cherished Grandpa of Griffin, Dominic, and Sebastian. Lovingly remembered by Patricia Cota of Oshawa, Ontario.

Predeceased by parents Bill (Willet) and Marion Cota (nee Cox), brothers Arthur Cota and Wayne Cota, and brother-in-law Robert Emmons. Forever remembered by sister Shirley Emmons, brothers David Cota (Shirley) and Allan Cota (Elizabeth), and brother-in-law Kevin Bennett (Barbara).

Survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their families.

Dale enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, helping others whenever he could.

Although Dale faced medical challenges over the past few years, he continued to show strength, determination, and a sense of humour.

Dale's family extends special appreciation to Dr. Lottering and Dr. Rastogi; Dr. Woods, Magda Foster, and Kathy MacLeod Beaver at the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre; Dr. Wang, Dr. Soares and the incredible Nursing Team at the OLH F4 In-Patient Palliative Care Unit; Dr. Ricciuto and the OLH Infectious Disease team.

Thank you to the care team, staff and agency supports at the White Cliffe Terrace Retirement Home in Courtice, Ontario for ensuring that Dale was content while in their care.

In keeping with Dale’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston, Ontario, at a later date.

Through Dale’s example of generosity, the family would appreciate any expressions of sympathy to Operation Smile Canada (operationsmile.ca) or the charity of your choice.
