McKenna FrederickMCKENNA, Frederica “Freda”  -  Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, in her 92nd year.

 

Beloved wife of the late Roland (2000).

 

Cherished Mom of Tim McKenna (Linda), Mark McKenna (Elaine), Jill Foley (Mike), and Mary-Ellen McKenna (Dave).

 

Loving grandmother of Kerry (Kathy), Patrick (Shiv), Ryan (Steph), Sean (Meg), Kathleen (Eric), Jarrett (Britt), Kendra, and Carly and great-grandmother of Hannah, Colin, Sienna, Cameron, Haylie, Lennon, and Harper.

 

Dear sister of Gertie (the late Mike), Hermien (Frans), and sister-in-law of Cheri.

 

Predeceased by her siblings Tony (Teresa), Mieke, and Joe. Freda will be sadly missed by Liesje, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Special thanks to the staff of Bloom Retirement for their loving care. Heartfelt gratitude to her dear friend Marsha. Freda was born in Raalte, Holland to Frits & Mary Noordman.

 

They lived through WWII in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1950.

 

After moving to Oshawa, Freda worked at the grocery store owned by her future husband, Rolly.

 

They raised their family in Oshawa and were engaged parishioners of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church where Freda was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for decades.

 

Freda enjoyed spending her time tending to her beautiful gardens, arranging silk flowers, and reading.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church (3800 Courtice Rd. North, Courtice).

 

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a charitable organization Freda and Rolly actively supported for a great many years.
