HRUSKA, Helen Nellie (nee Gulenchyn)  - It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Helen Hruska announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 in her 97th year.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Hruska and loving mother of Diane, Janet (Tim), Carol (Dale), and Sandy (Joe). “Bobbie” was the proud grandmother of Paul (Alicia), Lauren, Jacquie (Momtaz), Mark (Maxine), Madison (Matt), Grant (Maggie) and Brooke (Liam) as well as great-grandmother to Nellie, Zoe and Olivia.

Helen is predeceased by parents Nicholas and Anne (nee Zavada), her nine siblings Mary (Bill), Peter (Pearl), Katie, Rose (Hub), Paul (Marie), John (Olga), Annie (Peter), Nick (Joyce), and Bill, as well as her sister-in-law Mary (John) and brothers-in-law Frank (Mary) and John (Lorraine). Helen will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and their families. She greatly enjoyed being part of their lives.

Helen worked as an administrative assistant at General Motors until her retirement at 65 when she was able to spend more time with family, friends (Edna, Pat B, Millie, Helen G, Helen and Jack S, and the late Alex, Norma and Glenn R, Nydia, Mary H, Pat R, Gladys and Bruce) and neighbours (Maria and the late Adele). Helen stayed fit cross-country skiing, skating, playing tennis, dancing and gardening.

Helen’s love of the arts was evident in her creative pastimes, including wood carving, oil painting, and especially knitting projects with her craft group at St George’s Anglican Church.

Helen had a strong lifeforce, and although she is no longer with us we take comfort in knowing that “a breath away’s not far to where you are.” (Josh Groban).

Arrangements with Mount Lawn Funeral Home.
