Nellie Martha Jean (Lewis) Allan of Fordwich passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late Melville Allan (1987). Loving mother of Bryan & Betsy Allan, Sandra Elliott, Arnold Allan & Cathy McDonell, and Floyd & Elizabeth Allan.
Dear grandmother of Jennifer & Harry Cummings, Sarah & Michael Moerbeek, Kurt Elliott, Dean Elliott, Sean & Jenny Allan, and Christopher & Regan Allan, and great-grandmother of Grayden, Emmalie, Grayce, Gerritt, Tara, Hendrix, Landon, and Harrison.
Predeceased by her son-in-law Donald Elliott, by her sisters Irene Nelson, and Thelma Kidd, brothers Russell, Les, and Norman Lewis, and by her infant brother Kenneth.
Nellie enjoyed an active life in the Fordwich area and community. Mel & Nellie and their family farmed on Gough Road for many years before moving to Fordwich in 1982. Mel was postmaster in Fordwich from 1968 until his retirement, and then Nellie took over until her retirement in 1990.
She was an active member of Fordwich United Church, Howick Legion Auxiliary, and the Howick and Blyth Legions where she served in various capacities for 73 years. Nellie enjoyed curling, bowling, and gardening. She will be sadly missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Nellie’s life will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 1:30 p.m., with visitation from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow at Harriston Legion. Private family interment in Fordwich Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary, or the Howick Optimist Club would be appreciated, and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
