BANKS, Corinne Mildred Banks

With heavy hearts, love, and remembrance, we bid farewell to Corinne, a devoted Mother and Godmother. Corinne, 98, lived a life filled with boundless love, vibrant energy, a positive attitude and a warm smile. She passed peacefully surrounded by love, leaving a legacy that will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who knew her.

Corinne Mildred Banks was predeceased by her loving husbands Clifford McConnell and Robert (Rod) Banks. She was also predeceased by her brothers Robert Davis (Theo) of Kailua, Hawaii, and Donald Davis, brother-in-law Mickey McDermott (wife Sandy of Fort Erie, ON). She was a dear daughter to Idella and William Davis and loving step-daughter to Blanche Davis, fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews.

Corinne is survived by her son Craig McConnell (partner Barbara Champagne) Pemberton BC, Keith McConnell, Calgary AB, Bruce McConnell and Karen McConnell (partner Don Guiseppi) all of Sudbury. She is also survived by Godchildren Rob Horne (Kitchener ON), Peter MacKenzie (Sudbury) and Barbara (Lane) Polowich (Sudbury).

Born in Bridgeburg, Welland County, ON, Corinne’s journey was one of caregiving, nurturing and volunteering. A proud graduate of the nursing program at Hamilton General Hospital, Class of 1949-B, she embarked on a career at Copper Cliff Hospital in 1950. She continued her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sudbury. Nursing classmate Joan (Clarke) Horne had suggested they “go to Sudbury, make some money, then see the world.” They never travelled outside of ON as travel companions.

Corinne loved northern ON. She immersed herself in caring for patients, recruiting more classmates to Copper Cliff Hospital and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether caring for people or spending time with family and friends, she was always compassionate. Corinne’s wanderlust did eventually take her beyond ON to Florida, England, Alberta, BC, California and Ireland with family and close friends. She was thrilled by breathtaking travel landscapes. Yet amidst the adventures her heart remained tethered to a beloved family whom she cherished above all else.

At home and the Fairbanks Lake camp, Corinne found great joy in cooking & baking for family and friends, often hosting and entertaining at several social gatherings. An exceptional and curious cook, she enjoyed trying recipes and submitted her best to the IODE cookbooks. For many decades Corinne devoted much of her time volunteering with IODE, The Church of the Epiphany, Anglican Church Women and Meals On Wheels.

Corinne was a devoted and longstanding member of the Church of the Epiphany for 72 years and was honoured to be the oldest member of her congregation.

She made many friends through her career and volunteer work, and though no longer with us, her legacy of love, laughter and compassion will endure. As we say farewell to Corinne, we take solace in the memories shared, the cherished love, and the legacy left behind. May her spirit forever soar among the stars, guiding us with light and inspiration to live each day to the fullest. Corinne will be forever loved, deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation Saturday, May 16 at 12 Noon – 1:30pm with funeral service to follow at the Church of the Epiphany, 85 Larch Street, Sudbury.
