BAZOS, Bessie Vasiliki Bazos

With heavy hearts we announce the death of our beloved mother and grandmother, Bessie Vasiliki Bazos, who passed away very peacefully in her home of 62 years on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the age of 87.

Born on December 1, 1938 in Rapsomati, Peloponessos, Greece, Vasiliki lived a life devoted to her Greek Orthodox faith which carried her through all the trials and tribulations that life brings. At the young age of 23 she came to Canada to marry her husband, John (Ioannis) Bazos.

Her life was devoted to her four children and husband with unconditional love. She gave wholeheartedly and selflessly to her family all that a mother and wife could provide. She came to Canada with no skills or education, but gladly took any job even though they were invariably laborious, backbreaking and many times started well after her children were home from school, fed and sleeping. She worked tirelessly throughout her, life all for the sake of her family.

She had love, courage and strength of character that made her the most wonderful person to be around. Her smile and warmth could light up the stars. She loved cooking, gardening and approached the complexities of life with a pragmatic simplicity: she could turn an ordinary meal into an extraordinary buffet with the simplest of ingredients; her garden bloomed harmoniously with the most delightful

display of flowers and vegetables; and she was creative in finding solutions to any problem. Her wisdom, virtues and fierce independence have left an indelible impression on her children, grandchildren and everyone who knew her.

Her grandchildren were her gems and they made her laugh with joy. She instilled in them the love of the Greek language and culture, the value of resilience against life’s obstacles and to turn to God’s love for support and courage. She will be so dearly missed as her loving legacy is etched deeply in our hearts and all those that she touched.

Vasiliki is survived by her devoted children, Chrysoula (John), Kostantinos and Panagiota; her granddaughters, Zoey, Anastasia and Angie who will forever hold fond memories of her loving embraces and yiayia’s wise advise and guidance throughout their years; and her sisters and brother, Rebecca, Alexandra and John.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John (Ioannis) Bazos (1990), her beloved daughter, Stephanie Bazos (2016) and her dear parents, Tryfona and Efstathia Lampropoulos.
