BLAKELY, John Douglas Blakely

He passed at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on Saturday, February 28, 2026 in his 70th year. He will be sadly missed by his brother Jim and sister Mary (Dan); his nieces Jennifer, Tammy, April, Amy, and Autumn; his nephews Jeffery, Mark (Celine), Stephen, Kim, Kevin and Lance; and his great nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by brothers Harry (Sharon), Allen (Joan) and Mike; and his parents Ruth and Jack Blakely. John will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends.

John was a much beloved member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 457 in Stayner, where he dedicated his time and energy in various ways. An avid curler, John was always ready to share his knowledge of and passion for the game with anyone who would listen. His interest extended into other sports, especially hockey, and he spent his life as a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan.

When he wasn’t watching or discussing sports, John enjoyed Westerns and war shows. He was the designated berry-picker for sister Mary, ensuring she had a fresh supply for making jam. John will be remembered as a caring man who always had time to share or listen to a story. Not one to hold a grudge, John’s forgiving and generous spirit will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, details will follow when available. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 457 would be appreciated by the family.
