BOLAND , Hugh Boland

Hugh Boland of Riverbend Retirement Home, Cambridge and formerly of Ayr, Ontario passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 91 years of age.

Cherished husband of 70 years to Betty (née Ford). Beloved father to Don (Patricia), Heather Connell (the late Rick), and Dave (Laura). Much loved grandfather to Kyle (Andrea), Kevin (Brittney), and Chris, and Chloe (Andrew), Jake (Nicole), and Taylor, as well as five great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Boland (née Cruickshank), and his siblings Jim and Margaret.

Dad was a dedicated family man who spent his entire life making sure the ones he loved were happy and well cared for, always putting their needs ahead of his own. He created a wonderful life with Mom and us in Reidsville, where they built a house in 1962 with the help of his brother Jim and other trades friends. They sold the property in 2014 and moved back into Ayr. The last 2½ years were spent at Riverbend in Cambridge.

Dad and Mom loved to travel. As a young family, we covered most parts of North America camping along the way. Later in life, they traveled the world, enjoying destinations such as an Alaska Cruise and Barbados.

Dad was an electrician by trade and was highly respected in his field. He was often called upon for advice and guidance by others in the trades. He set the bar high for us on how to live a life of purpose, leading by example—values and traditions that live on through us and our children and grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Hugh’s life with visitation and a bite to eat at Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Ayr Chapel, 183 Northumberland St., Ayr, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 1–4 p.m. Interment at Ayr Cemetery at a later date.
