Passed peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, March 24th at the Woodstock General Hospital.

Elizabeth May Bond was a cherished wife, mom, grandmother (Gma, gramma-la), great-grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law and friend. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Calvin (2006), parents (Winnifred and James Cole who came to Canada from England), brothers (Harold and Albert) and sisters (Marjorie and Jean) and her niece, Julie Hanmer. She leaves behind her adoring children David (Elisabeth), Susan (Steve) and Sara. She loved her 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren dearly and oh how they made her smile and laugh: Melissa (Kyle), Steve, Phil, George (Jenny), Ian (Emily), Linnea (Rob): Abbey, Hayden, Maggie, Grayson, Asher, Ivory and Aubrey. This summer her new great-grandson will join our family. She is survived by her loving niece Karen Burnet, loving nephew Tom Cole and many other extended family members.

Betty loved her Church of the Epiphany family deeply. She worked tirelessly there and enjoyed so many wonderful activities: church bazaars, concerts, Easter egg making, exercise classes and turkey pie making. She was a legendary walker and voracious reader who loved to sit in the fresh air and sunshine near her huge, beautiful maple tree on Winniett Street.

She married the boy next door in 1954 and worked hard in her family’s corner grocery store and as a mother, homemaker and volunteer (Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, Beavers (Boy Scouts), Church of the Epiphany, Sara’s ESL class). She was a sewer, baker, cook, amateur carpenter, spinner, gardener, quilter and weaver.

We will always remember her lemon pie and iconic Christmas pudding. We’ll think of her whenever we enjoy a cuppa.

Her kitchen and side porch were gathering places where we always found the solace of home.

A celebration of life will be held at Church of the Epiphany on April 17th at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to follow.

We send our heartfelt thanks to Park Place Retirement Residence, Care Partners, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Ontario Health at Home and the Woodstock Hospital.
