BURGESS, Margery Ada Burgess

Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe, Margery Ada Burgess (née Babcock) passed away at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late George Burgess (1997). Loving mother of Lynn (Dean), Cheryl (late Nick), Richard (Kate), Melinda (Dave) and Melissa (Mitch). Cherished grandmother of Jake. Treasured sister of Bruce (late Jacqueline). Predeceased by her parents Bruce and Edythe Babcock, brothers Harold (Joyce) and Paul (Theresa and the late Frances).

Remembered and loved by numerous nieces and nephews. Margery was born in Sarnia on May 23, 1929. Growing up in the country, she attended a one-room schoolhouse where she enjoyed learning and was a bright and attentive student. As a teenager, she began working at Young’s Jewellers on Christina Street in downtown Sarnia. In 1955, Margery married George Burgess and they subsequently had five children. She remained in Sarnia until 2016, when she moved to Barrie to be closer to her four daughters. Margery loved being a mother and was unwavering in her devotion to her family. She had a wide range of interests and exceled at every activity she undertook. As an avid gardener, she grew beautiful flowers as well as vegetables for her family of seven, was skilled at canning and baking (best pies in the world!), crafting, and was an excellent bowler in a women’s bowling league.

Margery loved nature and was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing and bird watching. In her later years, Margery developed an interest in art and showed real talent in painting and drawing. Margery’s warmth, sense of humour, cheerful disposition, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
