With heavy hearts and enduring love, the family of Chris Swoffer announce his passing at Northumberland Hills Hospital on August 18, 2026 in his 72nd year. Chris fought courageously to remain with those he loved, and his strength and devotion were evident until the end.
Chris is lovingly remembered by his partner, Nadine Moonie; his daughter, Melissa Murray (Darren); Nadine's daughters, Michelle Webb (Jeff) and Danielle Rock (Shawn). He was a loving and proud Poppy to Sydney and Cassidy Rock as well as a devoted Grandpa to Isabel and Ivy Murray. Chris shared a special bond with all his granddaughters and treasured every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Piper.
Born and raised in Picton, Chris was the son of the late George and Isabel (née Thrower) Swoffer. The youngest of three children, he leaves behind his sister, Sandra, and brother, George "Butch". He looked forward to his regular Friday phone calls with his brother, in Australia. Those conversations kept them close despite the distance and were a treasured part of his week.
Known for his skill as a handyman and craftsman, Chris could often be found working on projects for family, friends, and the community. His dedication and generosity left a lasting mark on the Colborne Legion, which benefited greatly from his countless volunteer hours. Over the years, Chris served in a variety of capacities on the Legion executive, including three years as President and most recently as Past President. In recognition of his commitment and outstanding service, he was honoured with a Life Membership. Whether organizing meat draws, cooking monthly dinners and preparing Christmas hampers, or managing the dart and pool leagues, Chris was a valued and familiar presence whose contributions enriched the Legion and the community he loved.
Chris cherished his friendship with Ted Walker. Whether sharing daily coffee visits, spending time fishing together, or simply enjoying each other's company, the two formed a lasting bond. His memory will be cherished always by those fortunate enough to have shared in his life, including Tom, Sandy, and Grant, whose regular visits and homemade treats brought him great comfort. Their kindness and companionship meant so much to Chris and often lifted his spirits when he needed it most.
Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace after a courageous battle, and will have his final resting place in Cherry Valley. Chris's kindness, strength, and love for his family will never be forgotten.
