David Patterson

January 5, 1955 – October 5, 2026

Memorial candle

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Patterson at home on the 5th of October, 2026 at the age of 71.

Beloved husband to Nuala for 44 years, proud father to Siobhan, Sean (Charlotte), and Caitlin (Kevin), and adored grandpa to Aoife, Aiden, and Grayson.

Predeceased by his mother, Claudette (née Dix), and survived by his father David and siblings Jeff (Kathy), Greg (Virginie), and Deb.

David was born in Scarborough on January 5th, 1955. He attended David and Mary Thomson before studying Civil Engineering at University of Toronto and graduating from York University with a Bachelor of Administrative Studies. He started his professional career as a manager with AVCO Financial Services and transitioned into Real Estate for the remainder of his working life. David was heavily involved in community work, and was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh Gold and Silver Awards. He was also a driving force behind the formation of the first Canadian branch of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Society and served as president and chief organizer for several years. He continued his service to community groups as a Cub and Scout leader and as chair of the CSPC at his children’s school.

David loved his Blue Jays and supported them in the good and the bad years. He had an eclectic taste in music, from Kim Mitchell to Billy Joel and The Guess Who and loved to attend concerts. With his loving wife, David took regular road trips to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Maine, and Vermont and enjoyed holidays to California wine country, Chicago, Paris, and Ireland.

David was happiest spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. His eldest grandchild, Aoife, affectionately called him “Papa Pig.” He enjoyed talking about baseball with Aiden and watching Grayson crash his monster trucks. Many Christmases were spent playing Risk with his children.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who called him friend.
