EDGERTON, Debra May Edgerton
May 20, 1950 - May 17, 2025
It is with a profound sense of loss and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Debra May Edgerton. Debbie died peacefully at Sunset Manor Long Term Care Home in Collingwood on May 17th, 2025, just shy of her 75th birthday.
Debbie was born on May 20, 1950. She grew up on Maybourne Avenue in Scarborough where she was the 8th of nine children in the Traill family. Debbie was married at 18 years old and had two daughters, Kim Bryan (Mark) and Tammy Edgerton (George). Proud grandmother to Matthew (Shivangi), Jacob and Leah. Treasured sister to Barbara Caterer (the late Ronald), Kathleen Hadden (Doug), Anne Brewing (Ron), Mary Gail Suckling (Stuart). Debbie was predeceased by brothers Donald and Gordon Traill Jr. as well as sisters Carol Kay, Jessie Bickle (Ken) and her parents; Gordon and Kathleen Traill (nee Simons).
Forever loved by partner Dan Cannon and cherished friend to Lynn Hitchin who provided much support these past few years. Debbie will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
A lifelong learner, Debbie earned her Chartered Insurance Professional designation and was an insurance underwriter supervisor prior to retirement. Debbie impacted everyone she met, with her big heart, big smile. She was a positive force and lived for the moment, wanting others to enjoy that too.
Debbie loved spending time with family and friends whether to go shopping, share a meal, travel, visit a spa, play euchre, or attend concerts. Some of her hobbies included knitting/crocheting, reading, enjoying flowers in the garden, dancing to her favourite music, taking long walks and watching the sunset.
Debbie was proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. Her love for them was never ending. She made sure to be a part of their lives as much as she could, leaving so many fond memories behind.
As a mom, Debbie was a source of comfort and strength. A fierce protector and a best friend. She made a home that welcomed all with kindness and unconditional love. She taught us many lessons including compassion and the value in caring for one another.
We would like to thank the exceptional staff on the South Simcoe unit at Sunset Manor for their care and unwavering support during this difficult journey. She endeared herself with her bright smiles and dance moves to staff, residents and their family members during her time there. A special thanks to Donna Muller who continually went above and beyond to support Debbie and family, and to Heather Woods who also provided loving one to one care during the past few months.
A celebration of life will be held at the Lindsay Golf and Country Club (282 Lindsay St S, Lindsay, ON K9V 0L6) on July 19th 2025, 1:00-3:00 pm. If desired, donations in memory of Debbie may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Simcoe County or the VON Simcoe County.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Affordable Cremation.
