FLOOD, John Baldwin Flood
March 23, 1935 - February 26, 2026He born in Toronto, Ontario on March 23, 1935, passed away peacefully in his 90th year, surrounded by love and family on Thursday February 26, 2026 at the General & Marine Hospital, Collingwood.
John shared an extraordinary 67 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marilyn Flood (née Curts) — his partner, confidant, and greatest love. Together, they did everything side by side, building a life rooted in family, hard work, deep companionship, and unwavering commitment.
After graduating from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, John went on to build a remarkable career at Canron, where he worked for over 30 years. Through dedication, integrity, and leadership, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike.
When John and Marilyn retired and moved to Wasaga Beach in 1998, they poured their time and energy into helping establish what would become Wasaga Beach United Church. What started as a small mission church, meeting in a former school, grew into a thriving congregation and officially joined the United Church of Canada in 2000. As Charter Members, John and Marilyn remained dedicated and hands-on, contributing in countless ways to help build the strong and caring church community enjoyed today.
They were also involved in the newly formed Wasaga section of the Ganaraska Hiking Club. It was not long before they proudly became and served as co-presidents of the club for 10 years, fostering community connection, health and friendship
He was a devoted father to Wendy (Carl White), Dawneen (Mike Boyle), and David Flood (Tanya Gordon), and a proud grandfather to 7 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 6. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Doris Flood, and his sister, Margaret (Walter Soltys), and is survived by his brother, Brian (Leanne) Flood. His legacy lives on through each generation he guided, inspired, and loved so deeply.
To say John was an incredible father is truly an understatement. He was a coach, mentor, teacher, and role model who believed that life was meant to be lived fully and learned hands-on. John showed that anything was possible with patience, effort, and heart. He coached many sports and was an avid sportsman himself, instilling confidence, discipline, resilience, and a deep appreciation for teamwork, perseverance, and personal responsibility.
John was known for his calm nature, gentle humour, and easygoing spirit. He welcomed friends as family, made everyone feel at home, and had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable stories. He was endlessly supportive, deeply proud, and quietly strong. Above all, John was a man of integrity, loyalty, and unconditional love. His children and grandchildren will forever carry his lessons, his sense of humour, and his steady presence in their hearts.
John leaves behind a legacy not only measured in years, but in the countless lives he shaped, strengthened, and uplifted.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
