Gallagher LawrenceGALLAGHER, Lawrence Gallagher  –  RCMP Inspector (Retired)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Larry, on June 11, 2024 at the age of 82.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara and his children Wendy (Joe) & Michael (Christie). Cherished brother in law of Ron & Randolph. Dear uncle of Gordon, Janis, Rob, Kevin, Craig, Cheryl, Jon (Steph), Britt and their families.

Predeceased by his parents Isobel of Edinburgh, Scotland & Leo of Donegal, Ireland, sisters Leona & Margaret, brother Donald and sister in law Brenda.

Born in Chesterville, ON Larry moved to Oshawa with his family a few years later. He attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Elementary and O’Neill OCVI High School. Larry had an incredibly fulfilling life starting at a young age when his interest in aviation was boosted after he became an Air Cadet with Oshawa’s 151 Chadburn Squadron.

Later in life he went on to obtain his single-engine pilot’s license. At the age of 18 he joined the RCMP and trained for nine months at Depot, Regina, Saskatchewan. His first posting was to Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Larry was transferred throughout the province, on to Regina, back to Oshawa and finally British Columbia, where he retired after 34 years as an Inspector in the force. Larry’s love for his job, his team and those he served, was unwavering. He maintained those lifelong friendships from coast to coast.

Larry loved nothing better than to welcome people into his home for a rum and coke and tell stories for an hour…or ten. He will be forever remembered for his great sense of humor, his contagious laugh and his kind heart. When not glued to the news channels on the television, Larry could be found immersed in a war movie or looking up in the sky as an airplane flew by. Larry is now soaring with the angels and keeping watch over his beloved family and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday July 23rd 1pm at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. Larry’s final resting place will be the RCMP Cemetery, Regina, Saskatchewan.
