In the early hours of Wednesday, March 18, 2026 with her son Owen and her granddaughter Lisa by her side, Shirley peacefully passed away, at age 92. Shirley (nee Anthony), beloved wife of the late Verne Everett George. Doting mother of Owen Vern George and David Stephen George. Loving grandmother of Michael and Kristen George and Lisa and Jeffrey Crosier. Cherished great grandmother of Brock and Coen Crosier and Avery and Bethany George. Shirley Irene George was born to Ewart and Jenny Anthony in Whitevale, Ontario on December 25, 1933. She was the 5th of 7 children born. Her siblings include Jean (Wilson), Marion (Douglas), John, Eleanor (Toots Bailey), Joyce (Hennessey) and Donald (Bud). The Anthony family has deep roots in the Whitevale area. Shirley Irene George attended Whitevale public school and Markham High School. She was an active member of her community being involved in the Whitevale band as a majorette and was voted May Queen. She sought a career in hairdressing and carried this passion throughout her life. She raised her family in Rexdale, Ontario and later settled in Port Perry Ontario. She was a pillar in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As per her wishes a funeral will not be held. She will be laid to rest with her late husband Vern in the Elmwood Cemetery in Markham, Ontario.
