It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Newman of Toronto, Ontario at the age of 75. Gordon passed peacefully on August 21, 2026 at Michael Garron Hospital.

Gordon was born to Frances Dixon and Richard Newman on February 14, 1951 in Summerside, PEI. The second of their four children, the family later moved to Toronto and Gord spent most of his life here.

As a young man, he took long road trips on his motorcycle throughout North America and developed an interest in the guitar.

He attended university at Waterloo and later transferred, by a circuitous route, to U of T, where he graduated with a Bsc in 1984.

During that same time, he was employed at George Brown College as a hearing impaired interpreter and while there, he met Judy. They married and later became parents to Mike and Katie. The next 34 years were spent living in Scarborough until 2019 when Gord and Judy moved into a condo in East York.

After leaving George Brown College, he became an addiction counsellor and later managed an addictions treatment centre in Brooklin, Ontario until a health crisis forced him to take very early retirement.

A lifelong lover of music, movies, and comedy, Gord enjoyed sharing his favourite things with his loved ones.

Gordon was a devoted father and grandfather and derived great joy from his children and grandchildren and from any other small children who happened to be in his vicinity.

A celebration of life will be held at Don Heights Unitarian Congregation, 18 Wynford Drive, North York, on Saturday, August 29th at 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Michael Garron Hospital.
