GORDON, Jack Gordon

The family of Jack Gordon wish to announce his passing at the age of 96, just a couple of months short of his 97th birthday. Jack was one of three children born to Arthur and Myrtle Gordon of Cannington, ON. His older sister, Marion Park (predeceased) from Cannington, ON, and his twin sister, Jean McInnes (predeceased) from Lindsay, ON. He leaves behind his nieces, Lorraine McInnes, Elizabeth Burley, and Cathy Keeler. Predeceased by his niece Joan Edwards and only nephew Jim Wilson, both of Lindsay, ON. He had a special relationship with both and remembered them fondly. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews. Jack was affectionately known as Uncle Jack to many.

Jack began life in Port Perry, Ontario. The family moved to Sunderland, Ontario when he was quite young. He had many fond memories of his childhood growing up in a small town. Jack truly loved music and desperately wanted to play the piano. With the help of some close friends and his parents, he was able to take lessons as a young man. He went on to become a piano teacher. Many local students will remember his piano recitals. He played the organ at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Cannington for many years until he moved to Janetville. He then took on the role for the Janetville United Church for at least another decade.

His home in Janetville was his most loved place. His twin sister and her family moved in with him in the early 70s which brought him great joy. He opened his home to several tours, both house and garden, over the years. There were also a few weddings held on the grounds. He loved to garden and spent many hours working on the property.

Jack was a long-time mortgage manager at Victoria and Grey Trust which became National Trust and then Scotiabank. He helped many families buy homes in and around the Lindsay and Peterborough area.

When Jack was 59 years old, he took a trip to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro. It was not easy but he was glad he did it. Once he retired, he decided to return to university to finish his Bachelor of Arts. Many proud accomplishments.

Jack was also an author, writing The Green Pastures of Old Brock in 1997 which was a reflection of his passion for local history. Over his lifetime he became a prolific collector of antiques from all over the world with an eclectic taste that made his home uniquely his own. He will be remembered for his quick wit and the many unique colloquialisms that were unmistakably “Jack”

Jack spent the last few years at his home in Lindsay. He continued to garden in the summer and enjoyed visits with his many acquaintances. He lived a full life.

As per his wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life. He will be interred at the Bethel Cemetery in Greenbank, ON in the spring.
