Johanna Gundert

With her family by her side, Johanna passed away at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in her 90th year. She was born to the late Augusta and Fritz Krause , June 6, 1936 in Schönhorst, Germany. She married the late Paul Gundert in 1956. They started their married life in Germany and ventured together to Canada to start their new lives as tobacco farmers in the local area to then retire in Tillsonburg.

Johanna Gundert is survived by her children Christine (Rick), John (Marisa) and Connie.

“Oma” is survived by her 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 2010.

Johanna had exceptional skills with her hobbies of needle craft and her most favourite of gardening. She self taught her skills whether they were knitting socks and hats for her grandchildren or baking mountains of cookies for Christmas and in particular her sought after homemade donuts. She was a member of the of the Delhi German Home Ladies Society and the St John’s Lutheran Church, Aylmer.

A private family memorial service will be held in Ostrander’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial donations (payable by cheque) may be made to the Canadian Cancer Research Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation or MS Society of Canada These can be done directly with the charity or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home.
