HAKKERS, Alie Hakkers
It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Aaltje “Alie”(Strijker) Hakkers (Mom, Oma) at Jessica’s House, Exeter, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Alie was the beloved wife of the late Gerrit, with whom she shared a lifetime and hard work. Together they built a beautiful life and family. She was a devoted and loving mother to Ben; Linda (predeceased) & Irv; Helen & Keith; Gary & Debbie; Fred & Deb; Evelyn & Ron; Jerry & Cathy; and Mike & Kari. She was a cherished Oma to 19 grandchildren, a proud Great-Oma to 15, and a delighted Great-Great-Oma to 2. Born and raised in the Netherlands during the hardships of WWII, Alie was the middle child of seven siblings — Jan, Jacob, Aafke, Tinie, Bea, and Wolter. Shortly after marrying in 1954, Alie and her husband emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada, beginning their new life together. They farmed for many years, with Alie balancing the demands of a busy household of eight children while working tirelessly alongside her husband on the farm. Alie was deeply rooted in faith, family, and community. She gave her time generously to the Friendship Group and participated faithfully in her church’s Bible study. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures —spending time with her grand kids, playing games, knitting “mutsen,” making cards, baking kniepertjes, cooking her famous soups, and preparing oliebollen. Her kitchen and her heart were always open. Alie had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. To many, she was not only a mother or grandmother, but truly “Oma to all.” Donations in Alie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Jessica’s House, or to a charity of one’s choice. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to Falconer Funeral Homes – Bluewater Chapel, Goderich.
