HAMILL , Patricia Mary Anne Hamill (née Brown)
August 17, 2025
With bittersweet sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia Mary Anne Hamill (née Brown) of Paris on Aug. 17, 2025, at the age of 85 years.
She is survived by Beverley Hamill, her loving husband of 65 years; her son Mark (Tannis); her daughters Catherine (Andrew) and Karen; and her daughter-in-law Denise. She was predeceased by her son Allan in 2008 and her son-in-law Paul in 2023. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Erin, Quinlin (Hannah), Alexandra (Bryan), Megan (Drew), Elise (Éric), Avery (Charles), Claire and Madeleine. She is survived by her brother Jim Brown (Sharon) of Fort Myers and her sister Carolyn Lofstrom (the late Richard Lofstrom) of St. Thomas. Many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends will miss her dearly.
Pat grew up on a dairy farm outside of Strathroy, Ontario with her parents Allan and Mary Ellen (née Noble) Brown. It was there that she learned the values of hard work and sacrifice and developed an appreciation for nature and gardening. She ventured to Windsor in 1958 to study nursing where she met Bev and married soon after. They made their home in Burlington and Owen Sound before finally settling in Paris with their four children.
Pat enjoyed a rewarding career in nursing, caring for patients as a ward, surgical and urgent-care nurse at the Willett Hospital in Paris for 37 years. She was also domestically gifted, managing to raise 4 active children, tend a large vegetable garden, produce home cooked meals 7 days a week, bake, can preserves, chauffeur, and generally keep us all looking presentable – at least most of the time. Food was her love language, and we will sorely miss her gastronomic delights. Perhaps her most cherished gig was that of grandmother, lavishing her 8 grandchildren with affection and plenty of bear hugs.
Pat travelled extensively across the US and Canada, spent winters in Myrtle Beach and created lasting memories in Mexico, Spain, and France. She loved reading and was the ideal trivia and crossword partner given her impressive memory, superb vocabulary, and broad base of knowledge. Beneath her demure demeanor lived a quick wit that produced unexpected zingers that kept us all entertained. In short, Pat was our rock, an unwavering source of strength, stability and wisdom. We will forever be grateful to her for her selfless devotion to our care and instilling in us the values of service, kindness, life-long learning, and generosity of spirit.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ Open House will be held on Saturday September 13, 2025, from 1:00-4:00pm at Five Oaks Retreat Centre (1 Bethel Rd., Paris). Tributes will begin at 2:00pm followed by refreshments. We warmly welcome family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues (plus children) to attend the celebration and explore the surrounding nature trails.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Cancer Society, Stedman Hospice or Five Oaks Retreat Centre would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting WM. Kipp 519 442 3061.
