HARRIS, Jacqueline Harris

Jacqueline “Jackie” Harris was born on January 20, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Amanda and Frank Dumas. From an early age,  Jackie accepted Christ, and her relationship with God remained an important and treasured part of her life. She was a member of churches in Hamtramck, Amherstburg, and Windsor.  She truly loved the Lord.

After graduating from Hamtramck High School, Jackie worked for Champion Spark Plug Company in Detroit, Michigan.  She also pursued her passion for beauty and earned her cosmetology license. Jackie enjoyed doing hair alongside her mentor and beloved aunt, the late Evangelist Martha Green.

In November of 1963, Jackie married the late Howard Harris Jr.  From this union, their beloved son, Howard Harris III, affectionately known as “Howie” was born.

Jackie had a caring and generous spirit that touched the lives of everyone around her. She took great pride in her appearance and had a special love for makeup and jewelry. She was also well known for her beautiful home decor.  Her elaborate and festive Christmas decorations brought warmth, beauty, and joy to her home and to all who visited.

Jackie had a special place in her heart for her beloved fur baby, Candy, who brought her great joy and companionship. She also loved to travel and create cherished memories with her late niece, Kenya Horn. During the latter part of her life, Jackie enjoyed dining out at various restaurants with her family and sharing those special moments together.

Jackie was a loving and devoted aunt, who helped raise her nephew, Rodney Harris, and played an important and lasting role in his life. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Amherstburg, Ontario, (Ruth Chapter); and a member of the Prayer Circle of Detroit.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Jackie passed away suddenly and peacefully in her sleep. Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Howard Harris III “Howie”; her parents, Amanda and Frank Dumas; and her siblings, Frank Dumas Jr., Robert Dumas, Gussie Horn, and Jerome Dumas.

She leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout the United States and Canada. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Special Thanks to her Harris sister-in-laws for all of their love and concern. Jackie, you will truly be missed – especially by your cousins,  Joanne and Gerald Harris. Your love, your faith,  your beautiful spirit, and the memories you created will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you. May you rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord.
