Helen Mary Burdett

February 28, 1944 – July 24, 2025

Smiling woman with short curly hair and earrings.

In memory of Helen who passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael (2021) and her son John (2022). Survived by her loving children Catherine (Allan), and Neill (Lisa), who provided unwavering love and support through her many health challenges. Missed by their children and her grandchildren Nick (Madi), Vanessa, Katie (Tom), and Jack.

Also survived by her son Martin and his family, including Helen’s only great grandchild, Nora.

Helen spent the last almost three years in the care of the wonderful staff of St. Peter’s Hospital on Maplewood Drive in Hamilton. She was treated with kindness and respect in her final years despite her difficulties. We will always be grateful to the staff and administration for allowing Helen into your program and the incredible support she received.

Born and raised in England, Helen lived in Quebec as a teenager with her parents and siblings. The family returned to England and Helen’s goal to always come back to her beloved Canada was realized in 1974. Helen and Mick settled in Brantford, and she stayed home to raise their four children into their teens. She then worked as a receptionist at the Wayne Gretzky Centre and finally at W. Ross Macdonald School as a secretary until early retirement at 55.

She was an excellent knitter (passing the skill down to her granddaughter), handy with a sewing machine, and proficient in the dying art of shorthand. She enjoyed their Sunday barbecues with family and friends, bowling, and their favorite spots in North Carolina and Manitoulin Island.

Private final arrangements have been made.
