HEWITSON, Murray Lyle Hewitson

It is with broken hearts that the family of Murray Lyle Hewitson announce his sudden and unexpected passing on May 8, 2026, at the age of 81.

Murray will be profoundly missed by the love of his life and devoted wife of 48 years, Ruth Hewitson (nee Andrews). Loving father of Richard (Barb), Jody Marino (John), and Lindsay. Proud and devoted Papa to Tyler Clinton, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.

Dear brother-in-law of Doug (Jane), Alice (John), Cathy (George), and Wendy. Murray will also be lovingly remembered by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Predeceased by his parents, Tom Hewitson and Cora Hewitson (VanSickle).

Murray will be deeply missed by the many friends who knew and loved him for his unfiltered honesty, quick wit, wonderful sense of humour, and endless stories. Over the years, he built a wide and loyal circle of lifelong friendships. Above all else, Murray’s greatest pride was his family. To know him was to hear stories about his beloved grandson Ty and all his accomplishments. Some of Murray’s happiest moments were spent at the lake with Lindsay and Ty, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Whether cruising along an open highway or discovering a quiet back road, Murray found freedom and joy on his motorcycle β€” a lifelong passion he especially loved sharing with his son Richard. He also treasured his Saturday morning coffee gatherings with β€œthe boys” and the many friendships formed through time spent with the crew at Brantford Motorcycle.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the first responders of the City of Kawartha Lakes EMS, Fire Department, and the OPP for their tireless efforts and compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to gather in Celebration of Murray’s life at St. George United Church, 9 Beverly Street, St. George, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, for a reception from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In keeping with Murray’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home. Donations made to either St. George United Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Murray’s memory would be appreciated by his family.
