It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen John Hewitt, who left us on April 5th, 2025 at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Stephen was the beloved husband of Tammy Deveau and the cherished stepfather of Cynthia Carberry (Billy) and April Williams (Ian). He was a loving son to Patricia Brideberry and Bruce Robert Hewitt (predeceased), and a caring brother to Brian (Lynn-ann – predeceased), Brent (Donna – predeceased), and Dave (Diane). Stephen was also a proud step-grandfather to Jasper, Juniper, Ember, and Oliver and a loving uncle to Bruce, Sandie, Christie, Robert (Robby), and Billy.
Stephen was well-known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. As a dedicated employee at CN Rail, he found joy in working alongside his coworkers. Outside of work, Stephen had a passion for classic cars, often spending hours working on and caring for his beloved projects. He also fondly reflected on the trip to the mountains at Jasper National Park in Alberta that left a lasting impression on him.
He was a gentle soul who had an incredible way of making others feel valued. Stephen’s memory will live on through his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in Stephen’s honour at a later date.
