HORNBY, Terry Hornby
July 4, 1959 - September 19, 2025
It is with incredible sadness that we share the passing of Terry Hornby in his 67th year. Surrounded by family, Terry passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Hamilton. Born July 4, 1959 to his parents Tom and Saranne, Terry was the youngest of 5 siblings, growing up in the Barton St. and Sanford Ave. neighborhood. Terry was first and always a proud Hamiltonian and a gifted storyteller, many of his fondest tales were about family and friends. He grew up in the shadow of Ivor
Wynne Stadium and attended Cathedral Boys High School. Terry graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He spent his entire 36-year career in the public service with over 3 decades as a Youth Probation Officer both in Hamilton and Haldimand-Norfolk. An active member of the
community, Terry also volunteered as a coach and organizer of the Blessed Sacrament Basketball Association for over 30 years. His love of sports, his hometown, and
advocacy for youth were his defining qualities. Above all else, Terry loved to spend time with his wife and family. In his retirement, he enjoyed travelling to Italy and Ireland with his wife Diane. His home was always a place that brought people together, often sitting by the pool listening to Psychedelic Sunday. He treasured his time fishing with family and friends, and looked forward each year to his time fishing and to the quiet hours spent on the lakes of Northern Ontario. Beloved husband of Diane, he will be greatly missed by his sons Ryan, John (Kate-Lyn), and Daniel (Stephanie) and his stepchildren Lindsay (Ian) and Ryan (Meagan). Loving grandfather to Sadie, Lucy, Aiden, Harper, Mason, Reese, Sterling, and Stella. Terry will be missed by his siblings Tom (Barbara), Todd (Annette) and brother-in-law Bob. He is loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Saranne Hornby, and by his sisters Barbara (the late Les) and Beth.
His family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the
Trillium Gift of Life Network be appreciated by the family. A private family service has taken place. All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday
October 5th from 1-4 pm at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club, 555 Bay St N, Hamilton, ON L8L 1H1. Online condolences can be sent through www.dermodys.com.
