HRONCEK, Dennis William Hroncek

On Monday, November 10, Dennis Hroncek peacefully passed away at the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Willi, children Susan and George, sister Anne (Wayne), sister-in-law Mary, and his beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents George and Susan, brother Mel, and nephew Jason. He will also be fondly missed by his many cousins in Slovakia.
He was born in August of 1942, the third child of Slovak immigrants in Hamilton, Ontario. As he grew up, he divided his time between his father’s business, Sunshine Bakery, his grandparents’ dairy farm in Silverdale, and his uncle’s turkey farm in Grimsby. He also enjoyed playing football and was a devoted Tiger Cats fan through thick and thin. After high school, a chance meeting with his Lutheran minister led him to Waterloo Lutheran University to study economics. He then earned his teaching certificate and began a 33-year career in public education as a business teacher, department head, and vice-principal with the Lincoln County Board of Education. He loved teaching and often wished that he had returned to the classroom rather than retiring as an administrator.
While he was intensely devoted to his career, he also made time for his love of singing and playing guitar, as well as finish carpentry, travelling, and crunching numbers. Slowly, his disease took these activities from him, and we hope that his restless spirit has found peace at last. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Ireland, Dr. Phillips of the Walker Cancer Centre, Moira of St. Elizabeth Village, and the nurses and PSWs who made his final days comfortable.
The family will receive friends at Tallman Funeral Homes Fireside Room, 3277 King Street, Vineland on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Parkinson Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Education Foundation of Niagara.
