John Francis Hughes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John Francis Hughes, in his 90th year. Jack passed away at Belleville General Hospital on Monday, March 16th, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his beloved family. Cherished son of the late Edward Hughes and Gwendalyn Semark. Predeceased by beloved wife, Marjorie Hughes, with whom he shared fifty-six years of happiness in marriage. Jack is survived by his adored daughter, Valerie Hughes (Steve). Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved children: Garry Hughes (Donna), Penny Graham (John), and Jackie Bennett (Rick). Jack was the proud grandfather of Jason Hughes, Bradley Hughes, Angela Brown, Ann-Marie Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Selena Lawday, John Jr. Graham, Jamie Bennett, and Nikki Bennett. Sadly, Jack was predeceased by his two granddaughters: Shelly Harvey and Lisa Bennett. He was an equally proud great-grandfather to several great-grandchildren. Jack was survived by his two brothers, Jim Hughes (late Roberta), and Dick Hughes (Marilyn). Predeceased by his siblings: Stella Carty (late John), and Bob Hughes (Isabelle). Jack will be deeply missed by his extended family and his dear friends. He was well known for his strong work ethic, applying his dedication across many jobs before finding his place at Bakelite, where he spent many years doing what he loved.

Arrangements entrusted to RUSHNELL FUNERAL HOME – BELLEVILLE (80 Highland Ave. 613-968-5588). Visitation will be held in the chapel on Saturday, March 28th, 2026 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are then asked to gather for refreshments at Rushnell Reception Centre. A spring Interment will take place at Belleville Cemetery in the coming weeks. Details to be announced.
