JONES, Margaret Jones

JONES, Margaret Jones

She died peacefully on December 12, 2025, in Owen Sound, Ontario at the age of 82, surrounded by her children. She is predeceased by her husband Alan, her brother Tony and her parents, Selina and T. Harold Tomlins of Blacon, Chester.

Margaret was as a devoted mother to Helen and Bryan (Jacqueline), a proud Nana to Sara, Ben (Brinnin), Sophie, Drew, Nathan, Mason, Avery, Taylor, and a Great Nana to Lochlan. She is survived by her siblings Elizabeth (Arthur), George (Judith), Christine (David) and Valerie. Sister-in-law to Joyce (Gerald), Jean, Muriel, Yvonne and Paul. Much-loved Auntie Margaret to Alan, Elaine, Iain, Gary, Nicola, Ben, Jenny, Jack, Claire, Kate, Amy, Jonathan, Lynne, Paula, Mark, Robert, Philip, Susan, Christopher, Wendy, Gary, Gareth, Sian and Barry.

Born in Scotland during WWII and raised in Chester, England, she trained as a seamstress before becoming a hairdresser. She met Alan on a day trip to Blackpool, and they married in Wales and started a family. In November 1977, Margaret and Alan emigrated to Canada, bringing with them a spirit of adventure and bravery. They settled in rural Ontario, starting their new life while missing their homeland. Margaret cherished her UK family, and, in 2022, she was able to make one last journey to visit them.

Margaret was internationally renowned for her bargain-hunting prowess and knack for a deal – not many could not stretch a dollar or pound as far as she did. She could fix anything and could create crafts and activities out of almost any household item. She embodied the motto “Keep Calm and Carry On” long before it became fashionable. She loved a visit to the Casino, was a great storyteller and could be quite direct with her opinion. She never left the house without her hair neatly done and being elegantly dressed. Margaret and Alan were accomplished dancers and shared many evenings at the Royal Canadian Legion, where they were longtime members. Later in life, she rediscovered a love for singing and delighted in joining the church choir.

Her life’s mission was to shower her children and grandchildren with love and encouragement – and she did so with boundless devotion. She taught them that they could achieve anything they set their minds to, instilled in them a strong work ethic, honesty, and a deep love of family. She defended them with the fierceness of a lioness, and she feared no-one. Margaret helped raise all her grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. She adored them and burst with pride at their every accomplishment. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and her legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion will be felt for generations.

Margaret left the world a better place than she found it.

In accordance with her wishes, interment will take place in England.
