passed away peacefully at Highland Place, Kitchener on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born in Kitchener, Ontario on April 25, 1948, to the late Peter and Dorothy Kane, Janet lived a life marked by love, service, and an unshakeable pride for her family. She was the cherished wife of the late Thomas McEwan, with whom she was married to for 43 years
Janet was the devout mother of her three sons: Trevor, Travis, and Todd. Mother-in-Law of Violet Bryant. She was the adored Ma of Fay Ostrom, Nat Goulart, Paul Conway, Tim and Jamie Taylor, Shawn Carroll, Joe Quessy, and Becky Ostrom, each of whom she welcomed into her extended family with open arms. Her role as a grandmother to Mathew, Jay, Adam, and Alicia, and a great-grandmother to Emma, Kira, Isobel, and Kailey, was one of her greatest joys, filling her heart with indescribable happiness. She was the dear sister of Tim, Mike, and Mary-Lou, and an aunt to many.
Janet was an amazing woman and a pillar of her community. A kind, caring, loving mother to her three sons who were the pride of her life. She was known affectionately as “Ma” to the many children and adults whose lives she enriched. Her tireless efforts with the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank, Non-Profit Housing, Lang Farm Village Association, and Community “Soup Kitchens” exemplified her selfless approach to community service. Alongside her husband Tom, Janet was recognized by the Cambridge Fire Department for their outstanding community involvement.
Her work was not just about giving back, but about creating connections and fostering a sense of unity among all those she met. Her warmth, compassion, and dedication were the hallmarks of her character, and will be missed deeply by everyone who knew her.
Resting at Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas St., N) where family and friends will be received for Visitation on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 5-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Corbett Funeral Home on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 11am. Cremation to follow.
